Land Acknowledgement

Reel South prides itself on authentically representing a region known for its history of storytelling and markers of a vibrant culture and future. But with this pride we also understand this region is fraught with a history of violence, trauma, and subjugation against peoples borne of and brought to this land.

We want to acknowledge that "the South" is but one, more contemporary geographic naming convention used throughout the colonial and modern socio-political reality of the United States. In truth, we acknowledge that the stories we tell are inherent to the lands of hundreds of indigenous tribes who were almost all forcibly removed.

This is our call to our audiences and our fellow Southerners to reflect on the land we call home and to remember that we are but the most recent stewards.
